About ARAIB

The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board was established on 10 July 2006, integrating the existing Korea Aviation Accident Investigation Board and the Railway Accident Investigation Board, in accordance with the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Act. The purpose of the aviation and railway accident investigations is to prevent future accidents through precise determination of the accident causes, and further to improve the peoples' precious lives and property.

The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board consists of 12 Members including the Chairman and a Standing Member.

The Board itself is divided into the Aviation Sub-Board with six Members and the Railway Sub-Board with six Members including the Chairman and the Standing Member who participate in both Sub-Boards, respectively and are well recognized experts with long experience in relevant areas.

The Board affairs, such as the accident investigation activities, are handled by the Secretariat which consists of 25 staff including the Director General, 9 aviation accident investigators and 5 railway accident investigators.
