The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board sailed out on 10 July 2006 as a multi-modal investigation agency, integrating the Korea Aviation Accident Investigation Board established on 12 August 2002 with the Railway Accident Investigation Board established on 28 July 2005, and the purpose of the establishment is to protect the peoples' lives and property by ensuring the safety of aviation and railway through the prevention of aviation and railway accidents, conducting objective and impartial investigations into the aviation and railway accidents.
