About the Accident

The term "accident investigation" means the process and activities conducted by the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board for the purpose of the accident investigation and prevention which includes the gathering, analysis, cause determination of information and data, etc. related to an aviation accident and a railway accident etc. (hereinafter referred to as "aviation and railway accident etc."), and the making of safety recommendations, etc., in accordance with the provisions of the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board Act, Article 4.

Definition of Accident

The term "railway accident (hereinafter urban railway is included in) means an accident in association with the operation of a train or rolling stock, involving casualties or material damages, which is prescribed by the Presidential Decree of the Railway Safety Act, Article 61, paragraph 1:

  • Collision and derailment involving a train;
  • An accident that discontinues the operation as a result of fire involving a train or rolling stock;
  • An accident that causes more than 3 casualties in association with the operation of rolling stock or a train;
  • An accident that causes property damage of more than 50 million won in association with operation of rolling stock or a train.
